Leader Education is pleased to be recruiting a male Learning Support Assistant to work within a Pupil Referral Unit in Sunderland. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them succeed in a structured, supportive classroom environment.
The provision supports students aged 14–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work alongside teaching staff to support learning, behaviour, and engagement in the classroom, helping students to access the curriculum and develop confidence in their education.
This is a full-time, long-term position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm, following a successful trial period.
About you
We are looking for a patient, resilient, and adaptable individual with experience supporting young people who may struggle with learning or display challenging behaviour. Experience working in a classroom, small group, or support role is essential.
What you’ll need:
* An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
* A flexible and proactive approach to meeting students’ needs
* A strong understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
* Good communication skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships
* Experience supporting students with additional learning needs and/or SEMH
* A HLTA qualification or equivalent (desirable)
