We have a fantastic opportunity for full-time Ambulance Care Assistants to join our team based in Thurmaston, Leicestershire. An Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) is a rewarding role. Each day, you’ll help someone in need, making their life a little easier, and knowing you make a difference provides a real sense of achievement.
Your main responsibility will be transporting elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from medical appointments and between healthcare facilities. This can be carried out as two-person crews or alone, so it is vital to hold a full UK driving licence and to have a good degree of physical fitness.
This role requires you to work on a rota basis, 5 x 8-hour shifts per week including some weekends. Operational hours are between 5am and midnight; you may be required to work any shift within these hours.
Responsibilities
* Transport service users to and from medical appointments and between healthcare facilities, in two-person crews or alone.
* Assist with lifting, securing and helping service users in and out of the Ambulance.
* Transfer patients from beds to stretchers, chairs to chairs, or similar, both in and out of hospital and medical flights.
* Hand over patients to appropriate staff on arrival at treatment centres, hospital, or to family/friends at their homes.
* Assist service users with challenging behaviour and/or mental health illnesses while maintaining a high level of empathy.
* Ensure that the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy.
* Build rapport by effectively communicating with patients and their relatives/friends.
* Collaborate with the team to provide high-quality patient transport and care.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Committed to patient care.
* Effective communicator, able to engage in emotional circumstances.
* Calm, considerate, careful driver with no more than three penalty points on your license.
* Natural flair for teamwork and collaboration.
* Physically fit for patient handling and moving.
* Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded).
* Ability to work flexible shifts.
* Familiar with the local and surrounding area.
