Leg Ulcer/Lymphodema Specialist Nurse

Leg ulcer/ Lymphodema specialist nurse Band 6 30 hours Per Week, Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the recently amalgamated Tissue Viability/Lymphoedema and Leg ulcer service. The post holder will assist and work independently within the Leg ulcer/Lymphoedema team as part of the Tissue Viability service. The candidate will be working within community and hospital settings, providing specialist wound care advice, organising workload, promoting clinical excellence with a specific focus on the assessment and management of Leg ulcer, Lymphoedema and lower limb wounds, including multilayer bandaging as appropriate. Exercising leadership and judgement to ensure good clinical practice and high standards of care are maintained in order to meet service demand

You will be working within an integrated department and be involved with the current changes and developments within the organisation


Main duties of the job

The post holder has continuing daily responsibility and accountability with and without directsupervision from the Tissue Viability lead nurse.

Assess, plan, implement and review routine through to complex issuesusing research and evidence based knowledge to underpin practice in the field of tissue viability, lower limb issues including lymphoedema, including compression therapy strategies and multi layer bandaging where appropriate.

To supervise, lead, inform and delegate staff as appropriate to the needs of theservice by utilising nursing skills and resources effectively as directed by the lead nurse. This will include: chronic odema management, complex wound assessment, dopler assessment, leg ulcer management.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered General Nurse
* Post registration experience in wound care
* Leg ulcer management course or equivalent
* Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
* Evidence of involvement in teaching
* Evidence of mentorship experience
* Relevant wound care qualification - Tissue viability/wound care
* Chronic oedema/manual lymphatic drainage qualification or equivalent
* Nurse prescriber V100, V150, V300


Experience

* Demonstrate experience of managing the care of patients with complex tissue viability/lymphedema needs
* Experience of managing a caseload
* Demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and safety/quality initiatives pertaining to the role.
* Implementation of audit/evidence based recommendations
* Excellent communication skills and awareness of conflict management
* Evidence of development needs/support/mentorship to junior staff including students.
* Evidence of innovative practice.
* Knowledge of lymphoedema assessments and techniques
* Experience of working in a community setting
* Experience of acting as a Tissue viability link nurse
* Wound management skills: Topical negative pressure application, Doppler and compression bandaging


Skills and Knowledge

* Able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical practice and expertise to meet service need.
* Knowledge of the values underpinning the NHS Constitution


Personal Qualities

* Demonstrate reliability and flexibility to meet service requirements.
* Ability to travel around Tameside and Glossop
