Staff Nurse - Outpatients
Location: The Wilmslow Hospital, 52-54 Alderley Rd, Cheshire.

Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week

Shifts: Mon-Sat (early shift: 07:30am-15:30am. Late Shift: 13:00pm-21:00pm)
Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on experience + 4% shift enhancement

An exciting opportunity awaits enthusiastic and dedicated Staff Nurse with strong communication skills to join the dynamic Outpatient Nursing Team at The Wilmslow Hospital.

At the Wilmslow Hospital, we provide advanced diagnostic and treatment services using cutting-edge technology, including a 3T MRI scanner and 2 state-of-the-art laminar flow theatres, Ward with 5 en suite rooms 3 for day case procedures. Our facility includes 13 consulting rooms, minor treatment room, pre-op assessment and a comprehensive diagnostic imaging suite, and a dedicated women’s health unit.

The Outpatient Department supports a wide range of specialties, offering excellent opportunities for professional development.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and monitoring vital signs.
2. Assisting with minor procedures (such as hysteroscopies, shave excisions, biopsys etc…), diagnostic tests, and clinical interventions.
3. Supporting consultants during outpatient clinics and ensuring smooth patient flow.
4. Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of patient care and clinical activities.
5. Preparing clinic rooms and ensuring all equipment is clean, functional, and ready for use.
6. Upholding patient dignity, privacy, and comfort throughout their visit.
7. Providing clear health education and post-treatment advice to patients and their families.
8. Acting as a chaperone during consultations and procedures when required.
9. Responding promptly to medical emergencies and supporting the crash team as needed.
10. Adhering to infection prevention and control protocols, including decontamination of instruments.
11. Managing stock levels and ensuring the safe and efficient use of clinical supplies.
12. Collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care.
13. Participating in audits, training, and continuous professional development activities.
14. Escalating concerns or changes in patient condition to senior staff appropriately.
15. Maintain strict confidentiality in all patient and staff interactions.
16. Report concerns promptly to the Head of Department or Matron.

Person Specification

Essential:

17. Registered Nurse with active NMC registration.
18. Previous experience in a healthcare setting, ideally within Outpatients.
19. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
20. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
21. Commitment to personal and professional development
22. Flexible and responsive to change.
23. The ability to be flexible with working patterns, around the needs of the service.

Desirable:

24. Teaching and mentoring skills
25. Phlebotomy skills
26. Previous Outpatient experience.
27. Wound care experience.
