MEDICAL SECRETARY Band 4 Position
Nominally based at Western General Hospital
Part Time – 25.5 hrs (Monday-Friday)
Salary £30,353 to 33,016 (pro rata for part time)
Applications are invited from suitably experienced and motivated individuals to support the issue of Pathology diagnosis within reports. The Pathology Department provides patient diagnosis, including cancer diagnosis, for the majority of scheduled care specialties e.g. Breast, Dermatopathology etc. Pathology Department is based over two sites, this post will be nominally based at the Western General site.
Tasks within the role include fast, accurate audio typing of patient Biopsy / Autopsy reports and letters using a digital dictation system (Winscribe), collation of slides, reports and audit sheets for Consultant MDT (Multi-disciplinary Team) meetings.
Minute-taking experience is essential and experience must be described in application to progress to shortlisting.
Successful candidates must have previous relevant experience working as part of a team, excellent keyboard / communication skills, Microsoft Word and audio/digital dictation experience.

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
