Overview
Healthcare Assistant - Critical care. Band 3. Critical care are looking for experienced Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join our team. Critical care at Aintree is a very busy 31 bedded unit; we are a major trauma centre and regional service for vascular and head and neck surgery.
The post holder will work under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting the Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families/carers. The post holder will undertake a range of tasks and duties delegated by a registered nurse. As a Band 3 HCA you will provide high standards of care, assist nursing staff with clinical duties, and lead by example by supervising and supporting junior staff to maintain and improve care standards. Training will be arranged to achieve these skills.
You must be flexible to work days and nights to meet the needs of the ward roster and safe staffing levels.
Responsibilities
* Participates in all aspects of patient care with particular attention to personal hygiene and grooming.
* Provision of patients’ toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
* Support of patients in managing incontinence and promotion of continence.
* Preparation and serving of patients’ meals, drinks and snacks; assist/feed patients as necessary.
* Recording of patients’ dietary intake when indicated in the patient’s plan of care.
* Enable patients to maintain/improve their mobility by use of exercise and mobility appliances.
* Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the registered nurse in conjunction with the patient’s plan of care.
* Carry out movement and handling within safe practice guidelines from mandatory training and in relation to the patient’s manual handling plan.
* Obtaining specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing and safely transporting them.
* Adheres to and supports high standards of infection prevention and control and cleanliness appropriate to Critical care.

Qualifications/Requirements
* Experience as a Band 3 Health Care Assistant in a critical care setting is preferred.
* Ability to work under pressure and within a team; strong interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to undertake training to achieve required clinical skills.
* Flexibility to work day and night shifts as required by ward roster and staffing needs.
