Role SummaryAssistant Collection Manager: Van TransportCollection Care and MovesFull-time (41 hours per week)Fixed Term (12 months)£28,144 per annumApplication deadline: 12pm (midday) on 16 June 2025About the role:This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced driver with an interest in our collections to drive and manage the British Museum van. The role is responsible for the loading, transportation and delivery of objects from the Museum’s collection to locations throughout the UK, working in close cooperation with collection management colleagues.This is primarily a driving and delivery role but will also involve management and administration relating to the operation of the Museum van and any associated vehicles The role will also be expected to undertake the full range of object handling and packing duties as required, including (de)install courier duties on UK loans. A flexible and conscientious approach, with a willingness to uphold the expected professional standards of collection care in a major UK heritage institution, is essential.Full object-handling training will be provided.Key areas of responsibility:To facilitate the regular transportation of objects, materials and equipment between British Museum sites and to other institutions nationally as required, with occasional overnight travelTo manage the Museum van booking system and other relevant administrative tasksTo manage the regular basic maintenance of the van and arranging MOT and services as required.Financial administration of Government Procurement Card and monthly return for spendingTo work closely with colleagues throughout the Museum to ensure timely and effective coordination of transport tasksAbout you:Good general education including GCSEs or equivalentClean full UK driving licenceExperience of driving a commercial vehicle up to 3.5 tonnesDemonstrable interest in the Museum and its collection About the British Museum: Founded in 1753, the British Museum’s remarkable collection spans over two million years of human history and culture.
