About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Plant Fitter to join their busy plant department, maintaining and repairing a wide range of construction equipment and vehicles. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on, proactive individual with a strong mechanical background who enjoys varied work across plant machinery, small tools, and vehicles.
You’ll be based at the client’s fully equipped workshop in Nelson (BB9 area), supporting both workshop and on-site repairs.
Key Responsibilities
Repair, maintain, and prepare for site use a diverse range of equipment, from small tools up to 20-ton excavators.
Service and repair a fleet of vans, cars, and wagons.
Carry out planned and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
Perform welding, cutting, and diagnostic work (training can be provided if needed).
Maintain accurate records of inspections and servicing for all plant and vehicles.
Order and manage parts for fleet maintenance.
Keep the workshop and yard safe, organised, and tidy.
Work flexibly across both workshop and site as required.
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a small team.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the construction or plant maintenance sector.
Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical knowledge.
Understanding of LOLER and PUWER regulations.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative.
Organised and able to prioritise workload effectively.
Class 2 (HGV) licence advantageous but not essential.
Welding or diagnostic experience desirable.
Hours & Benefits
Working hours:
Monday to Thursday: 7:00am – 4:30pm
Friday: 7:00am – 3:30pm
Holidays: 23 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays (increasing with service)
Competitive salary £38,000–£40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
