Description
The Engineering Industrial Placement provides operational support within Engineering Management, contributing to the successful delivery of projects and maintenance activities at the CGT Catapult Stevenage Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MIC). The role supports a portfolio of initiatives that includes collaborator-focused work packages and capital investment projects essential for operational performance. Working closely with Project Engineering Managers, the position assists in the development of project governance documentation and the application of project management practices, tools, and software. Under the guidance of experienced managers, the role is responsible for delivering defined elements of these projects.
In addition to project work, the placement involves supporting the maintenance team in both planned preventative and reactive activities across the MIC. This includes gaining practical experience with utility infrastructure and plant systems, as well as exposure to building and process services. The role contributes to the optimization of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and its alignment with SFG20 standards, while also applying Root Cause Analysis tools to identify corrective and preventative measures following equipment failures or unscheduled outages.
The position plays an active part in ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, and internal quality standards. It also supports the development and implementation of best practice maintenance strategies aimed at improving reliability, reducing downtime, and enhancing operational efficiency. This placement offers a comprehensive introduction to engineering operations, combining project delivery experience with hands-on involvement in maintenance and compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities
Understand and complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time

Attend and fully participate regular training and development reviews with mentor, line management, HR representatives and HSE representatives.
Attend and contribute to regular project management meetings
Develop PMO project documentation
Manage aspects of project governance process
Contactor liaison and management.
Develop feasibility studies under supervision with Project Engineers to assess concept viability.
Contribute towards overcoming engineering challenges that arise during different project phases from concept to benefit realisation.
Develop project business cases – gaining an understanding of project scoping, concept design and return on investment assessments.
All work is carried out as planned and/or breakdown maintenance, fault finding, installation of engineering equipment and systems is carried out in accordance with the correct procedure
Process documentation through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) ensuring that adequate services are maintained
Inputted and information retrieved from the CMMS is carried out on time and accurately reflects the work
Support ENG compliance activities to ensure maintenance and engineering operations adhere to regulatory, safety, and internal standards
Assist in developing, documenting, and implementing best practice maintenance strategies to optimise equipment performance, reliability, and operational efficiency

Education / Qualifications:
Successful completion of the second year of a bachelor's degree course in an Engineering subject
