Role: Electrical Technician
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £33,000 - £38,000
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Technician with experience in control panel and prototype assembly to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys working on a variety of bespoke control systems and instrument rack builds. You'll support a range of industries by helping deliver tailored hardware and software solutions focused on data acquisition and automated control.
This is a new position driven by company growth and significant recent project wins. The role will involve substantial on-site installation and commissioning work across the UK, requiring flexibility to travel and stay overnight as needed. You'll need to be physically fit, as site work may involve tasks such as running cables at height or in confined spaces.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electro-mechanical assembly of bespoke systems, both in-house and on-site
2. Build and wire control panels and 19" rack systems
3. Fabricate and assemble extruded aluminium frames
4. Complete wiring harnesses, looms, and interface boxes
5. Conduct electrical testing (continuity, functional) and fault finding
6. Carry out single and three-phase electrical installations
7. Accurately document test results, site reports, and any design modifications
8. Maintain workshop operations, including stock reporting and cleanliness
9. Collaborate closely with engineering, installation teams, and clients
Candidate Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
10. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installations/Maintenance
11. 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations
12. Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics
13. Proficiency in control panel layout, cable selection, drilling, and wiring (3-phase, LV, PLC, ELV)
14. Hands-on experience with site installations and basic quality control
15. Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams
16. Familiarity with EPlan and electrical documentation tools
17. Practical experience in electrical fault finding and debugging
18. Knowledge of PLC-based systems (Siemens, Beckhoff) and/or NI instrumentation
19. Working knowledge of health & safety (Manual Handling, Work at Height, Electricity at Work Regulations 1989)
Desirable Certifications
20. AM2
21. ECS/JIB Card
22. City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent
23. PASMA / IPAF certification

Location & Travel
