JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Below are professional duties and responsibilities aligned with the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987.
Responsibilities
1. Planning
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
* Teaching, according to the educational needs of pupils, including setting and marking work in school and elsewhere.
* Assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment of pupils.
2. General
* Promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils and groups.
* Providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters, future education and careers, with records and reports as required.
* Maintaining appropriate personal and social records for pupils where not compromising the teacher’s position.
* Communicating with parents and collaborating with parties outside the school as approved.
* Participating in meetings related to these duties.
3. Assessment/Reporting
* Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references related to pupils, where appropriate.
4. Staff Development/Professional Development
* Participating in staff development and performance review when required.
* Reviewing teaching methods and programs; pursuing further training and professional development.
* Advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers on course development, teaching materials, programmes, methods and pastoral arrangements.
5. Discipline/Health and Safety
* Maintaining good order and discipline and safeguarding health and safety on and off school premises as directed.
* Participating in relevant school meetings related to curriculum, administration or pastoral arrangements.
6. Public Examinations
* Participating in preparations for public examinations, assessments for examinations, recording and reporting such assessments, and supervising pupils during examinations.
7. Review and Development of Management/Administration
* Contributing to selection, induction, assessment and professional development of other teachers.
* Co-ordinating or managing the work of other teachers and contributing to curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions.
* Participating in administrative tasks including management or supervision of support staff, ordering and allocation of equipment and materials, and attendance where applicable.
8. Working Time
* Full-time availability (195 days per year, with specifics on teaching days and hours).
* Seniority and location-specific terms apply for hours and breaks; breakdowns of weekly hours are defined.
9. Staff Cover
* Supervising and teaching pupils when a teacher is not available, subject to enrolment and staffing conditions.

Section 1 – Essential Criteria
The following essential criteria will be measured at shortlisting and may be explored during interview. Demonstrate how you meet these criteria in your application.
* Qualifications/Professional Membership – Hold a teaching qualification that meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland. Shortlisting by Application Form.
* Experience – Minimum of two years’ demonstrable experience of teaching English, Mathematics, or PE at Key Stage Three or Four; capable of using a range of teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs, including pupils with Special Educational Needs. Shortlisting by Application Form.
* Other – Must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post. Pre-employment check.
Section 2 – Essential Criteria (Interview Stage)
* Knowledge – Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, Safeguarding/Child Protection policy, SEND Code of Practice, IT and digital tools, current assessment methods.
* Skills/Abilities – Effective teaching and classroom management, inclusive learning environment, collaboration with pupils, colleagues, parents and community, teamwork and self-motivation.
* Values Orientation – Evidence of alignment with the School’s values and ethos; refer to the school's values on the website.
Section 3 – Desirable Criteria
* Desirable Criteria – e.g., experience teaching IT or Geography at KS3/KS4; involvement in extracurricular activities and school trips. Shortlisting by Application Form.
