We seek a versatile and experienced Principal Process Engineer to lead projects from initial specification through to operational delivery, managing multi-discipline teams. The role offers flexibility in location, with options for Preston or Risley, and may include travel between UKNNL sites and customer locations.
Main Responsibilities:
* Lead multi-discipline engineering teams to develop detailed process plant designs.
* Review and approve calculations, drawings, reports, and design memos.
* Collaborate with Project Managers on estimates, schedules, and delivery.
* Define procurement requirements and liaise with suppliers.
* Oversee plant commissioning and develop related documentation.
* Ensure designs comply with regulations such as DSEAR, PSSR, and Functional Safety.
* Support troubleshooting in active plant areas.
* Coordinate HAZOP processes and safety reports.
* Mentor junior engineers and guide design activities.
* Identify and develop business improvements with leadership.
Essential Criteria:
* Chartered Engineer.
* Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field, with substantial mechanical engineering experience.
* Experience leading design projects in regulated industries.
* Knowledge of relevant legislative, regulatory, and environmental standards.
* Experience supporting procurement of equipment.
* Leadership in design reviews and HAZOP processes.
* Proven ability to produce design substantiation reports.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience in hazardous process commissioning.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Ability to obtain SC security clearance.

* Experience in hazardous area classification, pressure relief design, and functional safety.
