Major Loss Ltd are FCA regulated loss assessors based in Darwen, covering the whole of the UK. We specialise in dealing with insurance claims on behalf of commercial customers. Claims can include business interruption, plant & machinery and general contents & stock.
The Job Role
We are looking to recruit a trainee loss assessor working as part of our head office claims team in Darwen, Lancashire.
You will initially assist and learn from one of our experienced loss assessors with a view to managing your own caseload in the future. You will be required to update and gather claim information from customers and will need to speak with insurers and loss adjusters to progress claims and obtain payments.
The Ideal Individual
Experience is not required as full training will be provided to the right candidate. Must possess a desire to learn and undertake the required insurance qualifications to progress within the business.
We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible team player who can incorporate their job role into the wider business and understands the importance of communication and interaction with other team members.
You will have a confident and friendly telephone manner along with a professional persona. Personal presentation will always be of a high standard and the ability to work in a face-to-face service-based environment is important.
A strong attention to detail is required along with excellent computer skills, the ability to multi-task, and effectively manage your own workload.
Main Duties
Promoting the company in a positive light to all stakeholders and customers.
Answering incoming calls, liaising with clients, loss adjusters, insurance companies and other individuals and companies.
Shadowing experienced members of the team to learn the principles of insurance, claims handling, and our business operations.
Operating a CRM system and ensuring that it is always kept fully updated
Assisting the Major Loss team with processing of documentation and other admin tasks
General administration duties
Escalating any issues to senior management
Site visits to meet customers and loss adjusters
Attendance at training or conference events as support may be required
Any other duties as instructed by your line manager.

The ability to take instruction and follow set procedures.
Flexibility & the ability to stay composed under pressure.
Annual Leave 28 days per annum (includes Bank Holidays). Normal hours of work: 9.00am to 5.00pm Mon- Thursday, 9.00am-4.30pm on Friday.
