Senior Mental Health Practitioner CAMHS Eating Disorder Service

We are launching an exciting new service – Eating Disorder Intensive Support at Home (ED-ISH) – across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. This full‑time Band 6 role requires a senior mental health practitioner with a specialist interest in eating disorders. You will deliver time‑limited, intensive, person‑centred interventions within young people’s home environments, working in a hybrid model across both counties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessment and management of children and young people with mental health and eating disorder presentations, including risk management.
- Providing high‑intensity, therapeutic care to high‑risk young people.
- Managing your own caseload autonomously whilst working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Working flexibly across Worcestershire and Herefordshire, with service hours 8 am–8 pm Monday to Friday and weekends 9 am–5 pm on a rota basis.
- Problem‑solving and effective time management in a fast‑paced, varied environment.
- Undertaking professional development to contribute to the growth of the service.

Person Specification
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to challenge poor behaviour and act on feedback
- Positive attitude and supportive communication skills, both oral and written
- Advanced therapeutic relationship building with young people and families
- Strong communication within multidisciplinary team
- Presentation and teaching skills, using multimedia for large and small settings
- IT proficiency, including literature searches and patient information systems
- Project management of clinical practice and governance changes
- Prioritisation of work and dealing with competing demands in a high‑stress environment
- Commitment to promote patient rights, independence and choice
- Strategic thinking for service development and planning
Additional Criteria
- Daily travel across both counties is required
- Independence in working and teamwork;
- Aware of personal strengths and limitations
- Availability 8 am–8 pm weekdays and 9 am–5 pm weekends on a rota basis (pro rata)
Experience
- Extensive post‑registration experience in mental health care, including assessment and risk assessment
- Use of therapeutic interventions such as 1:1, counselling, family therapy and group work
- Teaching and training delivery
- Consultation provision
- Inpatient and community CAMHS settings experience
- Developed specialist areas and policies for the service or local team
- Working in a multidisciplinary team
Qualifications
- Post‑registered clinical qualifications or equivalent training to a minimum postgraduate diploma level
- Current registration with the relevant professional body
- Original certificates to verify qualifications at offer
- Specific qualification in a therapeutic speciality e.g. counselling, family therapy, CBT, eating disorders
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of the Health Service
- Experience in a CAMHS community setting
- Knowledge of mental health issues in CAMHS
- Recognition of disorders and illnesses in mental health
- Clinical knowledge of eating disorders
- Awareness of professional guidelines such as NMC/HCPC
- Understanding of various communication styles with distressed children and families
- Interest in a specialist area
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
