Since launching the world’s first portable wood-pellet pizza oven in 2012, Ooni has grown into an award-winning, multinational company with a product range loved by pizza makers all over the globe. Our mission has always been to design innovative products that spark joy in our customers, and whilst we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished so far - we’re only just getting started.
Are you passionate about generating groundbreaking technologies for future products? Do you have a proven track record in technical problem-solving and delivering solutions that translate into commercial realities? Do you thrive on solving mechanical design challenges that address real user pain points and deliver tangible USPs?
If so, this is your time to shine. We are seeking an Innovations Engineer to join our world-class team. We work in a high-octane, collaborative environment where the best idea wins - regardless of role or title. If you’re ready to keep your foot on the pedal and shape the future of outdoor cooking and beyond, let’s talk.
This is a an on-site role, working a minimum of 4 days per week from our office in Broxburn, Scotland.
What You’ll Do
As a key member of the Design & Innovations team, you will be the engine room for future technologies. You’ll bridge the gap between "what’s possible" and "what’s next," working across the entire R&D lifecycle.
* Identify Opportunities: Conduct market analysis and technology scouting to spot emerging trends and innovation areas before they hit the mainstream.
* Concept Development: Turn "what if" into "here’s how." You’ll lead brainstorming, conduct feasibility studies, and create proof-of-concepts aligned with Ooni’s goals.
* Rapid Prototyping: Design and build mechanical prototypes. You should be comfortable with hands‑on work, building early proof‑of‑principle prototypes.
* Testing & Iteration: Rigorously test your prototypes, using data and iterative testing to ensure they meet high-performance specifications.
* Plan & Coordinate: Develop project plans, manage timelines, and coordinate with the wider team to keep projects moving at Ooni speed.
* Technical Documentation: Maintain detailed records of R&D activities, including design specs, test results, and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) presentations.
* Collaborate & Report: Work cross-functionally to implement new tech and deliver updates to stakeholders on project status and breakthroughs.
Who You Are
* A Technical Maker: You have a solid grasp of mechanical engineering but aren’t afraid to dive into basic electronics. You love getting your hands dirty building things.
* Solution-Oriented: You don’t just find problems; you find the mechanical solutions that deliver a "wow" factor for the user.
* Collaborative: You thrive in an "open-door" design culture where you contribute to the technology roadmap and share ideas freely.
* Detail-Obsessed: You take pride in your R&D documentation and ensure every test result is captured and every prototype is refined.
What you’ll need to succeed
* Engineering Background: A degree in Mechanical, Product Design, or Mechatronics Engineering.
* CAD & Prototyping: Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and experience with physical prototyping (3D printing, workshop tools, etc.).
* Project Mindset: Ability to manage your own timelines and resources effectively within a fast-moving environment.
