HPB (Upper GI) Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist
The main purpose of the role is to work within the Upper GI multi-disciplinary team to ensure a seamless co-ordinated approach to person centred care, across the surgical and oncology pathway. The cancer CNS will act as the keyworker for patients with hepato-biliary and pancreatic malignancy as part of the HPB/ Upper GI team. They will work in a professional manner to co-ordinate and promote timely onward referrals to other professionals and agencies as appropriate. The post holder will have a primary focus on Hepta-Biliary and Pancreatic (HPB) cancer and will be expected to provide cross cover within the Upper GI Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team (which includes oesophagus, stomach and duodenum).Please see employer website for full job details & person specification.
Responsibilities
* Provide a source of specialist clinical knowledge and advice to patients with an HPB cancer diagnosis
* Work within regional guidelines and local protocols, using expert knowledge and clinical skill to assess and manage patients with HPB cancer, to support the timely access to relevant care
* In close collaboration with the HPB team, act as the keyworker when a patient receives a cancer diagnosis, offering an accessible point of contact at key points in the patient journey
* Co-ordinate, triage and perform initial and on-going holistic needs assessment of patient needs, including the physical, emotional and psychosocial aspects of care
Skills and Qualifications
* Registered on part 1 of the live NMC register
* Hold a Nursing Degree or first level degree in a health related subject
* Minimum 5 years post-registration experience with 2 years at Band 6 or above in an acute cancer nursing environment and/or in a specialist care setting caring for HPB / Upper GI cancer patients
