Offer description

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team to work as a Student Welfare Officer as part of our Inclusion Team.

We believe that every student at Baysgarth School is capable of achieving their very best, regardless of starting point or additional need.

This is a great opportunity for someone with the right skills to join the school.

We are oversubscribed in almost every year group, which reflects the first-class facilities we have on site as well as our fantastic students and staff who make the school a great place to learn.

We pride ourselves on achieving outstanding outcomes in a school with an inclusive ethos that has superb pastoral care and a strong commitment to staff mental health and work-life balance.

Baysgarth continues to be a Good school that is ‘making good progress on the journey to outstanding’ according to Ofsted, who visited most recently in January 2023.

Inspectors described the school to “have created an inclusive community” where “pupils are well cared for”, “have access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities”, “benefit from high-quality teaching”, along with having access to “a range of experiences that go beyond the national curriculum…experiences that they may not otherwise have had”.

Leadership and governance is strong, with “a clear vision” and “high expectations”.

Baysgarth is consistently one of the top performing schools in the Humber region and it is our mission to recruit the most talented staff to cement our excellent reputation.

The role of Student Welfare Officer is key in providing support for students who need help in overcoming barriers to learning and developing their potential by raising standards of behaviour for learning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

* To be the first response to students through the On Call system for everyday issues and appropriately triage and follow up matters, to ensure issues are resolved
* To carry out investigations into reports of poor behaviour and make the necessary recommendations and actions
* To ensure the behaviour management system is implemented consistently, through providing support and guidance to staff
* To supervise the Isolation Room, ensuring students follow the Isolation rules and expectations
* To ensure appropriate learning programmes are in place for all students who complete an Isolation placement
* To maintain effective records of behaviour incidents and the appropriate actions
* To coordinate all referrals to isolation and communicate this effectively to all stakeholders
* To maintain effective records of behaviour incidents and the appropriate action

The following qualifications and experience are essential:

* GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) Grade C or above
* Experience of working with students
* Good ICT skills
* Tact and persuasive skills
* Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Baysgarth School is currently an 11-16 comprehensive with over 1,000 students on roll.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate pride, passion and positivity and a desire to ensure the school has the highest possible reputation in the local community and beyond.

Baysgarth School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The successful applicant will be required to apply for enhanced disclosure from the DBS.

If you are inspired by the challenge and responsibility of this opportunity, we would like to hear from you.

Further details and an application form can be downloaded from our school website.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the post, please feel free to contact the school by email at or call 01652 632576

Closing date for applications is 11 July 2025 at 8:00am

Please see the attached job description and employee specification which you should refer to when completing your application to demonstrate you meet the essential criteria for the role.

As an employer, we promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect the same commitment from existing and prospective employees or volunteers. Recruitment to this post will follow our safer recruitment procedure which includes us requesting references prior to interview and a DBS check.
