The below role descriptor seeks to capture the main requirements of the role consistently, providing a summary of the key duties of the flexible role to help in setting expectations for applicants, flexible workers and line managers. They are not intended to cover all duties which may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Marking Demonstrating Teaching Support – Grade 5
Marking
1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the subject area
2. Set and/or mark assessments according to relevant published criteria
3. Keep accurate records of marks awarded, liaising with the departmental assessment team as necessary
4. Provide oral and/or written feedback to students in line with departmental policy, procedures, and timescales
Demonstrating
1. Guide students in the experimental laboratory, computing class, workshop or similar
2. Assist the class leader as required, such as developing enhanced experiments
3. Responsible for assisting in the delivery of classes.
4. Attend annual briefing for demonstrators
5. Attend training sessions for each activity
6. Assist the class supervisor in her/his duties in running the session
7. To be present throughout each taught session, with reasonable breaks
8. To ensure safe working practices and good order
9. Provide support for students in practical classes
10. May mark log books and field trip reports
Teaching Support
1. Maintain registers and monitor attendance
2. Support the delivery of specific elements of the teaching programme as specified by the relevant department
3. Assist with the production of L&T materials
4. Assist and direct student projects as required
5. Help ensure appropriate student conduct and adherence to ethical guidelines, implementing the University’s code of conduct and reporting any concerns to the academic mentor
6. Monitoring the welfare of the student(s) and report any concerns immediately
