Job title: Software Engineer

Location: New Malden/ Frimley - We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Salary: Up to £55,000 (dependent on skills and experience)



What you’ll be doing:

1. Prototyping and development of new software functionality

2. Analysing software requirements

3. Creating software design and updates to support software implementation

4. Creation of software according to relevant coding standards

5. Maintenance of existing software

6. Porting of legacy software to run as part of current product

7. Investigating issues and identifying pragmatic solutions

8. Investigating defects and supporting defect clearance and the release acceptance process

9. Writing and running software test schedules to exercise and test system and demonstrate compliance with the requirements

10. Documenting appropriate information, so that others can understand the software and the system

11. Contributing to process improvement to ensure that the team are as effective and efficient as possible and work to the best of its potential

12. Liaising with other team and team members obtain key information

13. Opportunities for interaction with the customer to ensure the system needs and requirements of the operators are met

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

14. Understanding of software-intensive, complex real-time embedded systems

15. Structured Software Design, using formal methods

16. Change Control and Configuration Management

17. Strong programming skills, ideally in Ada. Experience with C or C++ will also be considered

Desirable:

18. Experience of software Integration & Testing on representative kit is desirable



Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution.

Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.

Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Combat Management System (CMS) team:

The Combat Management System (CMS-1) product support planning, tactical picture compilation, decision-making and weapon control to meet multiple emergent threats in blue water and littoral naval operations. CMS-1 is the heart of the combat system, providing situational awareness and weapon control from its consoles. The CMS is deployed on UK and Republic of Korean Navies
