About the role
Are you passionate about shaping the future of payments in a dynamic, customer‑focused environment? Tesco Insurance is building a new Payments product team, and we’re looking for a Product Owner to lead the charge in transforming how our customers pay, while ensuring our systems are efficient, compliant, and future‑ready.
As the Product Owner – Payments, you’ll be at the heart of our payment’s transformation, developing our end‑to‑end payments journey, working closely with Engineering teams, third‑party suppliers, and internal stakeholders to deliver innovative, compliant, and commercially impactful payment solutions.
You’ll combine deep technical understanding of payments systems with strong business analysis and service mapping skills to identify opportunities, shape strategy, and drive delivery.

Salary: From £50,240 & benefits & annual bonus.

Location: Edinburgh, Permanent, blended working.
Office Attendance: Our roles are hybrid. However, you should be able to work from your nearest IMS office 2‑3 days per week for this position. Occasional travel to other Tesco offices may also be required.

What you’ll be doing
* Own and optimise the end‑to‑end customer payments lifecycle – improving acceptance rates, reducing fraud, bad debt, and operational costs.
* Drive the payments change roadmap – prioritising initiatives, managing epics and lean business cases, and coordinating feature teams.
* Ensure our insurance payment products remain compliant, competitive, and customer centric.
* Maintain alignment with legal, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., FCA Consumer Credit, PCI DSS, SCA, Scheme mandates).
* Support the long‑term payments strategy for Tesco Insurance – including payment options, technology capabilities, and product roadmap.
* Manage payment‑related risks and ensure effective controls are in place.
* Support incident resolution and provide KPI inputs for planning and forecasting.
* Contribute to internal product governance processes including periodic reviews and approvals.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Proven experience in product ownership within payments or financial services.
* Strong technical understanding of payments infrastructure and integration with third‑party suppliers.
* Experience working closely with Engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure solutions.
* Proven ability working with Agile methodologies and tools (e.g. Scrum, SAFe PI planning, Jira).
* Strong business analysis and service mapping capabilities – able to translate customer and business needs into actionable product strategies.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable
* Experience in regulated financial or insurance environments.
