Purchase Ledger Clerk\n\nCPC is an independent project and cost management consultancy, providing the best technical expertise in delivering infrastructure, property and transformational change projects that are improving people’s lives both at work and at home.\n\nOur people are dedicated to meeting our clients’ needs, unified by a core set of values and behaviours that bring the right knowledge, experience and a fresh approach to unlocking every project’s full potential.\n\nPurchase Ledger Clerk\n\nRole: full-time, permanent.\n\nOffice: Leeds\n\nRole Purpose:\n\nTo ensure the timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices, payment runs, and reconciliations, maintaining the integrity of the purchase ledger and supporting the wider finance team in delivering reliable financial information.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nPrimary Duties\n\n * Process high volumes of supplier invoices, ensuring accurate matching to purchase orders and job numbers.\n\n * Perform supplier statement reconciliations and promptly resolve any discrepancies.\n\n * Prepare payment schedules and process BACS/CHAPS payments in line with company policy.\n\n * Ensure VAT is correctly applied and recorded on all purchase invoices in accordance with HMRC regulations.\n\n * Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies using strong problem-solving and analytical skills.\n\n * Manage the finance inbox and handle general finance-related administrative tasks.\n\n * Support the setup of new suppliers, ensuring all required documentation is collected and verified in accordance with company policy.\n\n * Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of integrity in handling financial data.\n\nSecondary Duties\n\n * Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end ledger closures with no date discrepancies.\n\n * Collate, reconcile, and post credit card and internal expense claims to appropriate nominal codes.\n\n * Support audit processes by providing requested documentation and explanations related to purchase ledger transactions.\n\n * Ensure compliance with internal financial processes and controls.\n\n * Maintain accurate monthly files and records in accordance with audit requirements.\n\n * Maintain awareness of potential fraud risks within the accounts payable process and report any suspicious activity.\n\n * Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.\n\nAdditional Duties\n\n * Allocate cash receipts and maintain accurate records (supporting Sales Ledger as required).\n\n * Provide ad hoc support to credit control activities, including issuing high-volume invoices, running credit checks, and chasing outstanding debts.\n\n * Assist in maximising cash collection and reducing aged debt using appropriate recovery methods.\n\n * Assist in the production of monthly management accounts as required.\n\n * Identify and suggest improvements to existing processes and systems to improve efficiency within the purchase ledger function.\n\n * Assist with the maintenance and development of the finance system, including testing updates or new features related to accounts payable.\n\n * Prioritise daily tasks effectively to meet deadlines, demonstrating excellent organisational and time management skills.\n\n * Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the line manager.\n\nKey Skills & Attributes\n\nStrong attention to detail and accuracy.\n\nGood understanding of VAT regulations and purchase ledger processes.\n\nEffective problem-solving and analytical skills.\n\nExcellent organisational and time management skills.\n\nHigh integrity and commitment to confidentiality.\n\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.\n\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a team.\n\nProficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.\n\nDesirable\n\n * AAT qualification or working towards it.\n\n * Experience in a fast-paced finance environment.\n\nCPC - Big enough to deliver but small enough to care\n\nIn addition to a competitive salary, CPC Project Services provides comprehensive benefits including private pension, private healthcare, holidays, assistance with private professional membership subscriptions, training and development, personal performance based bonus and annual salary review.\n\nWe encourage you to apply even if your experience is not a 100% match for this position.
