Pharmacy assistant

Offer description

There has never been a better time to join the Trust's Pharmacy team as a Senior Pharmacy Assistant. We have been working on transforming our ways of working by introducing a bag repacking service, which plays a vital role in ensuring our frontline crews are ready and able to respond to emergency situations by preparing equipment to high standards. This initiative has been successful in initial sites, and we have now received approval and funding to expand it. In the upcoming months, we will trial a pouch-based system to improve the flow of medicines, reduce checking and restocking times. Additionally, within this financial year, we will implement an electronic inventory management system for better visibility and tracking of medicines.

The Senior Pharmacy Assistant supervises a team responsible for repacking drug bags and pouches in a prescribed and controlled manner, ensuring each is ready for clinicians to treat patients. This role is a key operational support function that ensures patient safety and supports Operations in meeting its targets. Main duties include:

1. Daily supervision of the Pharmacy team;
2. Analysis of complex discrepancies and identification of solutions;
3. Ordering, receiving, and storing medicines;
4. Effective stock rotation;
5. Picking and packing orders for drug bags or pouches;
6. Carrying out checking and quality control processes;
7. Supporting returns and disposal processes;
8. Suggesting improvements;
9. Following the Trust's medicines policies and standard operational procedures.

This role is part of a new initiative aimed at developing our service. We are seeking committed individuals to join us.

At South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), we foster a culture where everyone is valued for being themselves. Our goal is to promote an inclusive environment that attracts people from diverse backgrounds and experiences, enriching our work for the benefit of employees, patients, and communities. We offer flexible working opportunities, inclusive policies, and feedback mechanisms to support personal and professional growth. We employ over 5,000 staff, including clinical, operational, emergency response personnel, doctors, and volunteers such as community first responders and fire co-responders. We are committed to providing compassionate patient care and maintaining a safe, enjoyable workplace. We promote positive behaviours as essential to our collective performance, and our recruitment processes are designed to uphold these standards. We encourage candidates to demonstrate how they will embody these behaviours in their application.
