Overview
Working in all areas of the hospital, cleaning to a high standard in line with the national cleaning standards. The successful applicant would be required to work off site locally situated and would be required to work unsociable hours and weekends.
Cleaning in all areas of the Hospital where required and completing all high and low level cleaning, replenishing stock, machine cleaning floors and cleaning sanitary areas, to ensure a clean environment for patient care in accordance with Trust Local policies, health and safety requirements, NHS National Specification of Cleaning Standards, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), and Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE), audits. Adhere to Infection Prevention & Control principles specifically Hand Hygiene and Bare Below the Elbow. Adhere to the Trustst Uniform Appearance Code/ Policy at all times maintaining a high standard of appearance and personal hygiene.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Vacuum cleaning; damp mopping of floors; damp dusting of furniture/fittings; cleaning of mirrors and internal glass; sanitary ware (baths, showers, sinks, toilets, washing tiled surfaces and paintwork); high dusting of walls and ceilings (to shoulder height). High level cleaning above shoulder height to be undertaken by the Housekeeping enhanced clean team. Floor maintenance; changing of curtains; provide focused cleaning practices (hydrochloride based products and solutions) when pathogens are present (Barrier rooms and Bays). Assist the enhanced clean team with deep clean/terminal cleans in-patient areas.
* During outbreaks of infections (e.g., diarrhoea, vomiting, Clostridium Difficile, Norovirus) assist with infection control tasks.
* Assist Clinical Professionals with the removal of body fluids.
* Takedown and re-hang curtains as per the location frequency curtain change schedule, including terminal and isolation location environmental clean, in conjunction with the Ward Manager and Infection Prevention and Control Nurse.
* Assist with legionella flushing of outlets within the area of responsibility and update records or documentation as required; report access issues to a supervisor/team leader.
* Safely empty and clean all clinical waste bins, secure and transport waste to the designated waste disposal area; decant clinical waste bins as needed to support patient flow.
* Perform cleaning tasks in accordance with the location cleaning schedule; ensure schedules are displayed within the area of responsibility.
* Perform focused cleaning tasks when instructed by a Housekeeping Coordinator.
* Correctly and safely use equipment (e.g., suction cleaners, floor maintenance equipment, mopping systems, carpet cleaning machinery, steam cleaners) and ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained in a safe manner in compliance with COSHH.
* Daily cleaning and storing of cleanliness equipment after use; maintain and clean assigned sluice rooms.
* Responsible for signing out and returning keys when issued.
* Supply and replacement of consumables (paper towels, toilet tissue, hand soap and sanitiser dispensers).
* Assist in controlling cleaning stock to meet location requirements.
* Adhere to the national colour coding system for work in accordance with NHS national standards and Trust policies.
* Report defects or repairs to furniture and equipment/fabric of the building to the Housekeeping Coordinator and monitor response.
* Prepare patient crockery and wrap cutlery for service; assist with collection of patient mealtime wares, wash crockery, cutlery and serving utensils; collect, clean, sterilise and redistribute water jugs as required.
* Ensure the building or work area is secure on leaving (windows, doors, exits as appropriate).
* Report incidents via the Trust electronic incident reporting system or escalate to the Supervisor or Line Manager.
* Attend all local mandatory training within the Trust (e.g., Manual Handling, Fire, Health and Safety, Infection Control, Environmental Cleanliness).
* Assist with training of staff involved with environmental cleanliness services to achieve required standards.
* Perform any reasonable request as directed by the line supervisor/facilities senior management.
Physical effort and working conditions
* Handling of potentially infectious blood and body fluids, with unpleasant smells/odours.
* Work with a variety of COSHH controlled substances.
* Significant manual handling activities requiring moderate/intense physical effort for short periods, including bending and lifting.
* Infrequently work with patients and carers in distress who may be verbally aggressive.
* Use specialised cleaning equipment (e.g., steam cleaners).
