An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent WTE Band 7 position within the Neurology and Ketogenic Dietetic Team at the world-famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, NHS Foundation Trust. Our Neurology Team covers acute inpatient neurology, outpatient neuromuscular and the ketogenic diet service and is the principal provider of specialist epilepsy services, both emergency and elective, for London (North of the Thames) and the surrounding counties. The department also provides a national and international service for the management of rare and complex paediatric neurological conditions.
You will have the opportunity to work as part of a fantastic MDT team and alongside a team of highly specialised dietitians providing a high-quality clinical service to neurology in and outpatients across the paediatric age range 0-19 years.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with either previous neurology or ketogenic diet experience or substantial general paediatric experience who wants to further develop their skills and become a specialist dietitian within the highly rewarding area of neurology, neuromuscular and ketogenic diet.
Main duties of the job
* Responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and high-quality dietetic service for both inpatients and outpatients working to agreed standards, policies and procedures.
* Using specialised knowledge to manage a caseload of patients with different underlying conditions
* Assessment of the patient’s needs for all children in the caseload, considering their diet history, growth and biochemical parameters and any relevant drug treatments. Making clinical decisions regarding the necessary nutritional support and dietary interventions
* Development and updating of diet sheets and other educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.
* Close liaison with the diet service technicians and tasks to support the operation and functions of the Special Feeds Unit and Diet Kitchen
* Teaching and supporting dietitians, diet service technicians, dietetic assistants, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of nutrition and dietary management through informal tutorials and formal study days
* Training the multidisciplinary team in anthropometry
* Freedom to act interpreting the Health Professions Council code of conduct and working to all agreed standards, policies and procedures within the department and the Trust.
* Maintenance and improvement of knowledge about current best practice and developments in paediatric nutrition and dietetics, employing evidence-based practice wherever possible
