Overview
Social Worker – Young People with disabilities, South Essex. Permanent, Full Time. Location: Basildon. Working Style: Community-based worker. Closing Date: 9 November 2025.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of children and young people with disabilities, providing assessment of their needs, advice, support, and the development of care plans and support packages in accordance with practical guidance.
* Work with young people and families from the age of 16 up to 25 during the transition from Children’s services into adulthood (Education, Health and Care Plans).
* Build relationships with young people and families using strengths-based social work approaches; support transitions into accommodation (residential/supported living), day services, development of independence, and work experience/supported employment.
* Work with legislation including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, Children and Families Act 2014, Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005; undertake Transitions/Pathway Assessments and Plans, Mental Capacity Assessments (including Deprivation of Liberty), Community Care assessments, and implement and review support packages/plans.
* Collaborate within the Young People with Disabilities Team (YPWD) as part of the CYPWD service to deliver early help, family support and social work interventions as part of SEND reform.
Skills and Qualifications
* Diploma or degree in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent; Registration with Social Work England as a registered Social Worker.
* Demonstrable capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards (e.g., PCF, KSS).
* Ability to apply social work knowledge with emotional intelligence, analytical skills, and confidence in challenging social and family situations.
* Good working knowledge of information technology and social work case recording systems.
Note: Required to work flexibly as required, very occasionally including evenings and weekends. Experience in Adults Social Care is desirable.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: £37,185 to £50,081 per annum. For Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs), starting salary is £34,902 per annum and will rise to £37,185 on successful completion of the ASYE programme. The role includes a nine-day working fortnight for full-time frontline Social Workers within Children’s services.
