Assistant Management Accountant
Salary: Up to £45,000 base (depending on experience)
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Management Accountant to join our growing team. This is a varied, client-facing role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with a diverse portfolio of businesses and is looking for more variety and responsibility than a traditional role offers.
The Role
You will take responsibility for delivering high-quality accounting and advisory support to a range of clients, while overseeing and developing junior team members. Key responsibilities include:
* Preparation and review of management accounts, including KPIs, cash flows, budget vs actuals and forecasting
* Reviewing and overseeing the work of the junior (transactional processing) team
* Training, mentoring and developing junior team members
* Payroll reviews
* Maintaining and updating clients' accounting records
* Accurate preparation and review of VAT returns
* Supporting clients to improve internal accounting processes and procedures
* Providing interim management accounting (AMA) support to clients as required
About You
The successful candidate will have a strong technical grounding, combined with excellent communication skills and a proactive, client-focused approach. You will ideally have:
* Solid experience in bookkeeping and VAT return preparation
* Strong working knowledge of VAT (advantageous)
* Experience preparing management accounts, including KPIs, cash flows and budget vs actuals
* Good payroll knowledge and experience (preferred)
* Exceptional numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
* Confidence in meeting with and working closely alongside clients
* Experience using Xero, Sage and Key Accounts (highly desirable)
You will likely be AAT, ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, with previous experience gained within an accountancy practice.
