Job Summary:

- To provide process support to all manufacturing cells (SMD, PCB, HLA) as required. NB: Each manufacturing cell will have a lead Engineer accountable for that cell with the Engineers leading the other cells supporting them.

* Responsible for implementation and improvement of production processes and procedures using Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing techniques to ensure best practice.

* Supporting new product introduction and manufacturing cell design to reduce waste, improve quality and safety, and reduce operating costs.

* Leading or supporting Manufacturing and Engineering projects.

* Troubleshooting problems with production equipment, processes, products, components; and escalating roadblocks to Management.

Providing recommendations and/or delivery of training to support operational needs.

Duties:

* To provide process support to all areas of Production, incl. SMT, Conventional and Unit build.

* Investigation and escalation of issues (process, product, material, training, etc) to Management and relevant departments.

* Supporting the estimation of production times for potential new products using Customer information, BOM, Cad data, Gerber, drawings, layouts to enable the Sales team to create an accurate customer price offer.

* Actively report safety concerns, modelling safe practices and procedural adherence. Report unsafe practices to Management.

* Creation and optimisation of programs, set ups, tooling, etc for process equipment (e.g. label and solder paste printers, component placement, wave & selective soldering, conformal coating machines, X-ray, AOI, etc) to obtain the best cycle time and quality for the product.

* Planning and implementation of preventative maintenance schedules and responding to equipment breakdowns, including liaison with internal departments and external contractors.

* Carry out the Engineering level preventative maintenance tasks at the required frequency to ensure equipment and processes are maintained at the required frequency (weekly, monthly, etc) to standard.

* Creation and issue control of Production Build Packages and Change Orders.

* Ensure time efficiencies are being achieved, by reviewing production performances and program optimisation. Implement process improvements as required, and where necessary modify production the time to reflect actual production build times.

* Technical & process interventions, for example fault finding, calibration of production equipment and verification of programs and equipment.

* Be a key member of continuous improvement initiatives. Evaluating and implementing the improvement ideas put forward.

* Train and coach new operators by using company training modules and best practice.

* Supporting the implementation of new products into production, ensuring these meet the process and quality requirements (e.g. checking solder joint quality, component presence, polarities, etc).

* Create and update work instructions and procedures as required.

* Liaise with relevant departments to agree priorities and carry out required actions.

* Attend quality meetings in order to solve quality problems. Supporting problem solving (8D) investigations as the Subject Matter Expert for Manufacturing / Engineering issues.

* Share technical expertise when and where required to support the business needs to anyone with queries both of a technical and practical nature.

* Drive efficiency improvement programs, creating & supporting process improvements that decrease waste, and increase quality & safety.

Required qualifications:

* Level 3 (e.g. ONC/NVQ) in an Engineering discipline

Preferred / recommended qualifications:

* Level 4 or higher (HNC/D, NVQ or Degree) in an Engineering discipline

* Lean / Six Sigma certified

* IPC certified

* Relevant equipment or process training certification

Required experience:

* Electronics manufacturing (SMT/PCB/HLA) Process Engineering

* Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing

* Use of ERP systems

* Working to IPC standards

Preferred / recommended experience:

* AOI, X-Ray, Reflow oven profiling, Conformal Coating, Selective Soldering

* Practical Problem solving (e.g. 8D)

* Fault Finding/Machine maintenance

* New Product Introduction

* Labour costings

* Windows / Microsoft Office / CAD / CAM
