Non-Executive Director

We are seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director to join our Board who will work alongside the Managing Director for the success of the City Hospitals Independent Commercial Enterprises Limited (CHoICE).
The successful applicant will be able to commit to 2.5 days per month (on average) and will provide an independent perspective on the Board's decisions regarding strategy, vision, and business development, also acting as a constructive critic to the Board, influencing and challenging proposals on strategy, performance, resources, and standards.
You will provide effective and entrepreneurial leadership and promote the long-term sustainable success of the Company, ensuring that our values are always adhered to. To probe and challenge constructively with motivation to improve company performance both in service offerings and in financial strength, underpinned with the confidence to take on challenges.

Main duties of the job
You will need to be able to demonstrate specific experience in the following areas:
* Relevant professional experience at board level.
* Board/senior level business or finance experience.
* Small business management ideally in the healthcare sector or its supply chains.
* Senior management experience in the public, private or voluntary sectors.
* Service in public sector bodies.
You will also have a professional, business corporate finance or legal background as well as having a good understanding of company law, the local health community (including the health needs of the population served by the Trust) and the NHS.
A strategic thinker, you will have the ability to think and plan to develop a clear vision and enthuse others, balancing needs and constraints, whilst remaining patient and community focused.

Person Specification
Experience
* Specific experience in one or more of the following areas:

Skills
* Have a professional, business, corporate finance or legal background and be able to demonstrate the following:
* Team working; the ability to work as an effective member of CHoICE.
* Business understanding; an understanding of the various components of the complex organisation, planning, budgeting, quality assurance, financial control, performance management and stakeholder development.
* Communications; to relate to and understand a range of health care professionals, representatives of local government and voluntary organisations and members of the public.
* Ability to build and maintain effective relationships based upon a broad understanding of how the NHS, the local Health and Social Care community and the current and potential customers operate.
* Demonstrate, a strong personal commitment to the underpinning values and ethos of Public Services, consistent with those of CHoICE and the Trust.
* Commitment to openness, honesty, inclusiveness and high standards.
Knowledge - Have a good understanding of:
* Company Law
* The local health community, the structure, roles and key players
* The NHS, its purpose, structure and ethos
* The health needs of the population served by the Trust.
