Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Financial Accountant to join our finance team during an exciting period of growth and transition. This role will be central to strengthening financial controls, delivering accurate month-end accounts, and ensuring the balance sheet is robust and well managed. You will also play a key role in supporting the integration of new acquisitions and driving process improvements across the team.
Role Responsibilities
Month-End & Reporting
· Prepare and post technical journals including accruals, prepayments, depreciation, provisions, and adjustments.
· Review reconciliations prepared by the Finance Assistant and Accounts Assistant, ensuring all balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled each month.
· Provide commentary and variance analysis to support management accounts.
· Work closely with the Finance Manager on site reporting, ensuring alignment with group results.
Balance Sheet & Controls
· Own the integrity of the balance sheet and ensure reconciliations are accurate, timely, and documented.
· Take responsibility for loan accounts and interest calculations.
· Ensure compliance with VAT rules and other statutory reporting requirements.
· Support the Finance Director with balance sheet reviews and audit preparation.
Process & Systems
· Identify and implement process improvements in reconciliations, journals, and reporting.
· Act as a technical resource for the wider team on accounting queries.
· Support the rollout of new systems and process changes.
Audit & Year-End
· Prepare year-end schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for external auditors.
· Assist with preparation of statutory accounts and corporation tax packs.
· Liaise with auditors, responding to queries promptly and accurately.
Business Support
· Partner with the Finance Director to support the integration of acquisitions.
· Provide ad hoc analysis, reports, and insight to support decision-making.
Skills & Qualifications:
· Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent experience.
· Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and balance sheet reconciliations.
· Proven experience in preparing journals and managing month-end close.
· Familiar with VAT, compliance, and statutory reporting.
· Strong Excel and financial systems skills; ability to work with large data sets.
· Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
· Confident communicator, able to work across all levels of the business.
· Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with an eye for continuous improvement.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £60,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
