Communications Assistant (AC21) – Arts Council England
Location: Manchester | Contract: Permanent – 35 hours per week | Salary: £27,401 per annum
Overall Purpose
You will provide efficient and effective support to the Advocacy and Communication team to enable them to meet their communication objectives in line with the National Comms Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide personal assistance and administrative support to the Director of Communication and National Director of Communication.
* Coordinate meetings, make travel arrangements, and ensure Directors are well briefed in advance.
* Contribute to the efficient running of the wider communications team by setting up and improving administrative systems.
* Carry out a range of tasks for the media, digital and marketing teams, including event‑managing internal and external business meetings, coordinating administrative processes, and supporting cross‑team working groups.
* Administer systems, monitor media and social media, carry out editorial tasks across digital channels, produce reports, and oversee relationships with external suppliers.
* Plan and prioritise tasks with flexibility, curiosity, and willingness to work beyond core responsibilities.
* Contribute to the organisation’s commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility.

Work closely with colleagues across the communication team and the wider organisation.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours
* Experience working in a small team, providing administrative and programme support to senior managers.
* Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple complex tasks.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – written and spoken – and ability to influence individuals without formal authority.
* Interest in communications, particularly in the arts.
* Good financial management skills and the ability to interpret complex information.
* Good understanding of Arts Council’s duty as a public body, current diversity legislation, and its relationship to the arts.
