Dental Nurse
Full fixed‑term contract providing support to qualified dental staff within the Restorative Department at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Location: Restorative Department. Specialty services include complex restorative treatments, endodontics, implants, special care, general anaesthetics, sedation, and periodontal surgery.
The role will also support undergraduate dental students, dental therapy students, and postgraduate trainees.

Responsibilities
* Provide chair‑side assistance (including patients under general anaesthetic) to all grades of dental staff and students.
* Prepare all instruments, equipment and materials required for treatment.
* Provide care and support for patients undergoing a variety of treatments.
* Provide pre‑ and post‑operative instructions and advice, maintaining a high standard of patient care.
* Ensure patient confidentiality is always upheld.
* Provide administrative assistance with liaising with patients and other external agencies.
* Provide clinical supervision and practical training to student dental nurses and other less experienced staff daily.
* Ensure cross‑infection control, cleanliness of the department, stock levels and equipment are well maintained.
* Collect and input data into the patient administration system.
* Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including stocks of materials and equipment.
Qualifications
Required:
* National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Healthcare (or equivalent) with portfolio completed and signed.
* Registration with the General Dental Council.
* Ability to organise own workload.
* Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
* IT skills.
* Specialist dental nurse skills (e.g. endodontics, implants, oral surgery, sedation).
* Post‑certificate qualifications such as radiology, sedation or orthodontics (preferred).
Knowledge:
* Cross infection control procedures.
* Health & safety issues.
* Continuing Professional Development.
* Clinical governance issues.
* Maxillofacial experience.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
