Are you looking to join a friendly and highly skilled team that is dedicated to providing the highest levels of care for children and young people? Do you wish to advance in a rewarding specialism that offers cutting-edge technologies? We are looking for NMC-registered nurses to join Great Ormond Street Hospital to work in their well-established team within the Heart and Lung Directorate.

This is an exciting time at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Cardiac Nursing. We are expanding our service and need your help. Cardiac services are embarking on a programme of change to meet the challenges of providing a world-leading cardiac programme.

We are expanding the service to open a focused High Dependency Unit. This will help children needing cardiac surgery to be nursed in the right place at the right time, allowing for timely discharges. You can be part of this change.

Bear and Alligator wards are two areas comprising 28 beds (including 8 HDU beds) that specialise in cardiothoracic patients involving the heart, lungs, and trachea. Great Ormond Street Hospital is the UK centre for Paediatric Pulmonary Hypertension, providing specialist care for patients up to 18 years old. Typical cases include patients requiring CPAP, Optiflow, chest drains, inotropes, TPN, blood transfusions, VADs, and pacemakers. We also manage patients pre- and post-heart/lung transplants.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 nurse with excellent communication skills, you will manage either ward as the nurse in charge. You will liaise with the full multidisciplinary team - CICU, medics, surgeons, physios, dieticians, etc., to ensure a smooth patient journey. This will be supported by clinical and office-based ward managers, the education team, and family liaison nurse.

Alligator ward is a cardiac ward focusing on Level 1 patients, ensuring timely discharges and parental teaching.

Cardiac nursing at GOSH is a fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and adaptability to different situations.

Once here, you'll be assigned a preceptor or mentor based on your background and will receive ongoing support from our ward-based education team. They will assist you as you develop your skills and confidence.

Opportunities to rotate across all areas and specialties within Heart and Lung are available after a period of consolidation.

* To be a clinical expert in caring for children and young people with cardiac conditions.
* To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for children, young people with cardiac conditions, and their families at all times.
* To assess each child or young person, plan, implement, and evaluate their care in negotiation with the family, ensuring accurate documentation.
* To provide appropriate supervision and support to ward team members.
