Grade 7 | Salary starting from £17,745 (£44,932 FTE)

The Diocese of Rochester is seeking a Schools Adviser to provide support and guidance for Church of England schools and academies. Working closely with the Diocesan Board of Education, you will play a pivotal role in developing effective teaching and governing, promoting Christian distinctiveness, and promoting high quality, creative Collective Worship for primary and secondary aged pupils.
This is a key leadership post for someone with the insight, creativity, and faith commitment to strengthen education across our schools and to ensure every child and young person can thrive.
About the Role
You will play a central role in supporting, advising and challenging leaders and governors of church schools to ensure the promotion and development of their Christian Distinctiveness. You will work closely with and represent the Diocesan Board of Education. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Promoting effective teaching and subject leadership of RE in diocesan church schools
* Supporting schools to develop effective policy and practice facilitating the Spiritual development of pupils and staff
* Advising schools on national initiatives, and ensure diocesan policies reflect updates
* Contributing to the planning and delivery of inspiring training for school staff, governors, RE/Worship co-ordinators, clergy and lay workers
* Processing school and academy governance appointments, as well as supporting and training foundation governors
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
* Significant experience of successful leadership in RE or Collective Worship in a school setting
* Experience of education in a Church of England school
* Knowledge and understanding of Christian ethos and practice
* Working knowledge of the SIAMS framework, RE Statement of Entitlement and current practice and curriculum in RE teaching
* The ability to build strong relationships and partnerships with stakeholders
* Commitment to the inclusiveness and community focus of Church schools
It would also be helpful if you:
* Have experience delivering training and undertaking research
* Have experience as a school governor
An enhanced DBS check will be required.
The post holder will be a public face of the diocese and so it is considered there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for the post holder to be a communicant member of the Church of England, or of a Church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church of the Evangelical Alliance.
