About the Role
As a Network Engineer within the Digital Services function, you will design, build, and maintain secure, resilient network infrastructure supporting critical policing operations.
You’ll act as a subject matter expert, ensuring network performance, security, and compliance while driving continuous improvement and innovation across the environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support, maintain, and optimise network infrastructure (physical and virtual) to ensure high availability and performance
* Design and implement network solutions aligned to business and digital strategy
* Act as a technical subject matter expert across network configuration, security, and infrastructure
* Conduct impact assessments and assure quality of changes to existing systems
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, security requirements and best practice
* Analyse business requirements and recommend scalable, cost‑effective solutions
* Build strong relationships with suppliers, managed service providers, and partner organisations
* Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of emerging technologies
Essential skills and experience
* Strong experience supporting and delivering network infrastructure within a large, complex organisation
* Static and dynamic routing
* Network monitoring and management tools
* Experience with cloud networking (Azure and/or AWS)
* Ability to produce technical design documentation and service artefacts
* Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to assess risk and implement solutions
* Experience working with third‑party suppliers and service providers
* Experience with Avaya telephony, Zscaler, SolarWinds, Sentinel
* Knowledge of ISO 20000 / IT Service Management frameworks
