We're now looking to strengthen our payroll function with the appointment of a
Payroll Manager
—a newly created role that will lead all payroll operations across the organisation.
About The Role
As Payroll Manager, you'll be the go-to expert for all payroll-related matters, ensuring our colleagues are paid accurately and on time across 23 payrolls with varying pay dates. You'll lead a team of three and work closely with stakeholders across Finance, People & Culture, and IT to maintain a robust, compliant, and forward-thinking payroll function.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, coach, and develop the payroll team.
* Oversee the full payroll cycle including starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
* Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and statutory payments.
* Manage year-end processes including P60s, P11Ds, and PSA submissions.
* Collaborate with Finance to analyse payroll costs and reconcile control accounts.
* Maintain and enhance payroll controls and systems.
* Identify legislative risks and support mitigation strategies.
* Ensure accurate and timely data flows between departments.
What We're Looking For
* CIPP qualified (preferred) or qualified by experience.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a complex, multi-site payroll environment.
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Proven experience managing payroll systems and teams.
* Deep understanding of payroll principles (tax, NIC, pensions).
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll, pensions, and HMRC legislation.
