An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Integrated Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Service at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a compassionate motivated and accountable Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist who demonstrates respect for colleagues patients and service users, and is committed to delivering excellence in clinical practice. You will be a key member of theNeurology and Oncology Therapy Team, based at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. In this role, you will provide assessment, treatment and ongoing management for children across a range of settings, within the specialities of:

* Oncology

There is also the opportunity to rotate into the Early Years Therapy Team, based at Ryegate Children’s Centre. Within this setting, you will contribute to occupation‑based early intervention for infants and children aged 0–5 years, working closely with families to support functional development and participation.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialised and high standard of occupational therapy that includes:

* The assessment, treatment and management of children in different settings, all within the specialities of Neurology, Neurodisability & Oncology.
* This will involve the rehabilitation of children and young people with conditions such as acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, cancer, cerebral palsy, developmental delay and developmental difficulties.
* To provide information that would help identify a diagnosis of the problem related to occupational therapy.
* To develop highly skilled knowledge in order to deliver an individualised treatment programme for each child
* To independently manage a personal caseload of children & young people within a defined area of the service or a particular client group, working without direct supervision
* To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as a developing autonomous practitioner and access the advice, training and support from senior occupational therapists where appropriate.

Person specification


Qualifications and Training

* HPC registration.
* Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent, relevant postgraduate courses and in-service training.
* Portfolio evidence of reflective practice.
* Membership of the BAOT.
* Involvement in BAOT special interest groups or local PT/OT Federation sub-groups.


Experience

* Variety of general experience and a working knowledge of a broad variety of conditions.
* 18 months – 2 years post-graduate experience.
* Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of working with children with physical disabilities.
* Experience of running groups for children with disabilities.
* Involvement in audit, research or service evaluation.


Knowledge and Skills

* Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and its implications for services.
* Understanding of family / team dynamics and how to develop working relationships with all involved in the child’s care.
* Understanding of the impact of disability on children and their families.
* Understanding of data protection, confidentiality and health and safety requirements in meeting the needs of the child and family.
* Ability to present information, written and verbal in a clear and logical manner.
* Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate appropriately.
* Ability to keep accurate and legible clinical records.
* Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and within emotional or challenging situations.
* Problem solving approach
* Ability to communicate effectively and work well within a multi-professional team.
* Personal access to a car and business class insurance cover.
* Knowledge of consent issues specific to paediatrics.
* Knowledge of assessment tools used for children with DCD.
* Simple research methodology.
* Ability to organise internal / external courses.
