We are supporting a major high-end vehicle manufacturer in strengthening their body-in-white joining capability. This role focuses on developing, validating, and applying advanced joining methods across prototype and production programs to ensure structural integrity, safety, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and application of joining methods such as MIG/MAG welding, laser welding, self-piercing rivets, flow drill screws, and adhesives across BIW components.
Define and maintain joining specifications, process standards, and design guidelines.
Collaborate with Materials, Manufacturing, CAE, and Supplier Quality teams to ensure robust joining solutions.
Support validation of joints for crash, fatigue, corrosion, and NVH performance.
Drive innovation in joining technologies for aluminium, steel, and mixed-material structures.
Manage CAD integration of joining features and ensure compatibility with tooling and assembly processes.
Support prototype builds, pilot phases, and production launches.
Lead root cause analysis and resolution of joining issues.
Interface with Tier 1 suppliers and technology partners to evaluate new joining solutions.
Must-Have Skills
Deep knowledge of welding, mechanical fastening, and adhesive bonding.
Experience with joining aluminium, steel, and composites.
Proficient in defining joining processes and quality standards.
Familiar with CATIA V5/V6 and geometric tolerancing for joint design.
Experience with joint-level and system-level testing for crash, fatigue, and corrosion.
Knowledge of tooling, automation, and assembly line integration.
Strong analytical skills to resolve joint failures and optimise performance.
Good to Have
Experience with friction stir or ultrasonic welding.
Ability to interpret simulation results for joint strength, fatigue, and crash.
Familiarity with recyclable joining methods and disassembly-friendly designs.
Knowledge of ISO, AWS, and OEM joining standards.
Hands-on experience with prototype builds and production ramp-ups.
Experience with Tier 1 suppliers and global vehicle platforms.
