Job Summary
Expert Lead Cardiac Physiologist – Oncology Services at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The role supports services for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and is based at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester. The closing date is 15 June 2026.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and development for all practitioners in the Clinical Physiology Department within the Cardiac Diagnostic Centre.
* Advise external institutions, including primary care and professional bodies within Cardiology.
* Exercise initiative and judgement to solve problems and make decisions that affect own areas of work, referring issues to Senior Management or Consultant staff as required.
* Independently collate complex clinical information, determine optimal procedure methodology, select and operate complex medical equipment, and analyse data to produce accurate written technical reports.
* Communicate independent interpretations of complex technical and physiological data to guide physicians during high‑risk provocative procedures.
* Supervise individuals working or observing in the clinical environment, including visitors from other trusts and organisations.
* Contribute to the development of educational activities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Qualifications
Essential
* BSc Clinical Cardiac Physiology / BSc in Healthcare Science (cardiology) or equivalent qualification.
* BSE Accreditation in echocardiography.
* Up to date ILS (Infection Prevention and Control).
Desirable
* MSc or equivalent expertise at this level.
* Teaching qualification (T4T, D32).
* Leadership or management qualification.
Experience
Essential
* Echocardiography experience at Band 7 Advanced specialist level with basic technical cardiology experience.
* Experience managing a cardiology department or an area of cardiology in a large tertiary centre, including organisational and personal management.
* Practical and formal teaching of Cardiac Physiologists and other HealthCare Scientists.
* Organisation and provision of education/training courses at a regional level.
* Multi‑disciplinary team working experience.
Desirable
* Experience in tertiary cardiac physiology practice.
* Experience in invasive cardiac physiology practice.
* Participation in cardiac research.
Knowledge
Essential
* High level knowledge of a wide range of cardiac physiology diagnostics and interventions.
* Understanding of the role of cardiac physiology within the NHS.
* Understanding of NHS organisation and of the implications of NSFs, NICE, Occupational Standards and other applicable NHS directives.
Desirable
* Expert specialist knowledge of Cardiac Imaging.
* Knowledge of a wide range of tertiary diagnostics and interventions.
* Knowledge of the Electronic Staff Register system.
