We are currently recruiting for an experienced Income Officer to join a Local Authority in Nottinghamshire on an initial 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive rent recovery professional to manage a defined patch and take ownership of the full arrears process.
Offering hybrid working (just 2 days per week in the office), this role provides flexibility while maintaining a strong presence within the community.
The Role
As an Income Officer, you will be responsible for managing a designated patch of tenancies, ensuring effective income collection and minimising rent arrears.
This is a fully end-to-end arrears role, managing cases from early intervention through to legal action and court representation where necessary.
You will work closely with tenants to agree sustainable repayment arrangements, while taking firm but fair action in line with policies and legislation.
Key Responsibilities of an Income Officer:
Managing a patch of residential tenancies
Proactively monitoring rent accounts and identifying arrears
Conducting early intervention and tenant engagement
Negotiating and monitoring repayment agreements
Serving statutory notices and progressing cases to legal action
Preparing documentation for court proceedings
Attending and representing the organisation at court
Liaising with internal teams and external agencies to support tenancy sustainmentAbout You:
Proven experience in an Income Officer / Rent Recovery role within a Local Authority or Housing Association
Strong knowledge of the full arrears recovery process, including legal and court procedures
Experience managing your own patch independently
Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills
Ability to balance enforcement with tenancy sustainment
