Job Description: Data Engineering SAS/SQL/Snowflake Specialist/Engineer (Senior Business Analyst) Hybrid: up to 3 days WFH London/Hybrid Permanent From £50.5k - £75.8k DOE and location fantastic benefits Full time: 37.5 hours per week We consider all types of flexibility, including locations, hours and working patterns. How you’ll help us make health happen: You will be an expert in the use of and coding in SAS/SQL coding languages and expert with use of SAS Enterprise Guide or SAS Viya. You will be enthusiastic when talking about complex table joins. You will be able to talk about your experience with platform migrations and how you overcame the problems in that. You will enthuse about code optimisation and data structuring and talk with pride about your technical ability. You will be familiar with having to find data in source systems, helping to engineer solutions that make that data available for analytic work in the warehouse or Snowflake environment. Data that you create will be used for your own analytics or structured and presented for other analysts to use. You will be happy and confident talking about these things at a face to face interview with other similarly skilled senior technical team members. The role is part of the Data Operations team within the overall UKI Data & Analytics department, with the aim of developing new analytic and production data solutions, based on the principals of production effectiveness and optimisation. You will develop a sound knowledge of the business operations, with a high level of data technical expertise. You will work with fellow analysts, non technical business managers and colleagues in IT services, to understand the desired outcome and what insights are necessary for their decision making. You will communicate effectively and clearly, both technically and in layman’s terms, to help colleagues understand the work. You will use listening and questioning techniques to fully establish business needs and help evolve business requirements and solutions. Contribute to or lead components of ongoing legacy solutions migrations. You may be required to help run month end production process to facilitate re-engineering solutions, as we evolve the automation of these and migrate from SAS EG to SAS Viya and Snowflake hosted data solutions. Key Skills needed for this role: The accountabilities and responsibilities of the role will vary according to the specific assignment(s) at any one time:- End to end development and testing of new production codes and processes. Work on tasks that are purely technology driven as well as those that are business and regulatory focused, needing data exploration and agile solution development. Establish quality checking procedures on new code solutions and they are effective, robust and appropriate. Liaise with other teams and departments e.g. UK IT, to ensure that data flow for new initiatives are productionised. Understand the importance of and adhere to information governance rules, including the importance of data lineage. Make recommendation for improvements, actively looking for opportunities to optimise existing business data solutions. This could be a short term thing or a log term project. Ensure all necessary documentation is maintained and updated after any change e.g. the service catalogue, data dictionary, entity relationship diagrams, operations manual. This applies to the whole team. Consult with and manage working relationships across Bupa, internal customers and partners as required. Partner with colleagues in other teams and departments on the delivery of new Bupa projects. Work with the Data Operations Manager on development initiaves that are going to be handed over to the production team. Technical Qualifications, skills and experience The role holder is expected to have the following qualification(s), skills and experience: Experienced in at least one: SQL dialect (T-SQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MYSQL) and SAS language is essential. Proven, strong experience of using industry standard tools and processing with large complex and intricate datamarts and datasets. Experience with health care and finance data sets is an advantage, experience in a database programming languages strongly preferred. Experience in working with RDMS such as Oracle or SQL Server and cloud-based data platforms, Snowflake preferred. Excellent organisational ability in a fast-paced environment. Proven experience in working on multiple concurrent projects. Proven experience in process change, including reconciliation of outputs. Ability to understand where efficiencies can be gained from application of technology and taking the appropriate course of action to implement and deliver benefits. Ability to solve complex problems and communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to work on own initiative, managing and prioritising workload. Ability to work independently but also within a team environment, being flexible in taking on various projects. Ability to make calm and rational decisions in a pressurised environment. Willingness to take ownership of issues, ensure all interested parties are kept informed of progress and deliver solutions. Strong attention to detail. Ability to deal responsibly with confidential data, having an understanding of data governance controls. Positive 'can-do' attitude.
