About the Role
In 2024, Surrey County Council launched the Intensive Family Support Service to provide early help for families with interconnected needs. Working with local partners, our goal is to offer timely support to prevent escalation and reduce the need for statutory intervention. We aim to ensure consistent relationships between families and their practitioners, avoiding the need for families to repeat their stories across multiple services.
Since establishment, we have seen the positive impact of Family Intervention Workers working alongside Social Workers in Assessment Teams to engage families early. These roles are within our Intensive Family Support Service but involve close collaboration with assessment colleagues to provide rapid support to new referrals.
On a typical day, you can expect to be involved in:
1. Supporting families using a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach, including meetings, home visits, school visits, and group work.
2. Coordinating support services and professionals to form an effective Team Around the Family, with clear roles and expectations.
3. Maintaining positive contact and balancing hands-on support with coordination of partners, ensuring consistent and meaningful relationships without families being passed around services.
These roles offer diverse social care experience that can lead to further career development within Children's social care. Our recent Ofsted inspection highlighted the positive work of IFSS staff, noting that "Staff are well-trained and committed, feel highly valued and are proud to work in Surrey," which is an experience you can expect if you join us.
