Principal Geoenvironmental Consultant
Manchester - Hybrid
Full Time - 35 Hours Mon-Fri
We are seeking an experienced Principal Geoenvironmental Consultant to support the Consultancy Division in providing customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders with commercially aware, technically proficient, and professional geo-environmental and environmental risk reduction services.
Key tasks and responsibilities Set a standard of excellence in all aspects of delivering environmental consultancy projects.
Set a standard of excellence in the management of health, safety and quality.
Lead the supervision, technical guidance, career development and performance of the team.
Line Management duties aligned with growth of the team
Management of team resources, senior level client engagement and close management of team finances.
Leading and supervising project management of Land Quality projects, relating to Transactions, Development and Compliance
Liaison with all stakeholders including clients, contractors and regulatory bodies
Undertaking site investigations to determine the extent and severity of impact and assessing Geoenvironmental risks
Logging of soils during investigations to a high standard and in accordance with best practice
Preparing health, safety and environmental documentation including risk assessments and method statements along with reporting of H&S near misses and positive observations
Management and planning of site investigations, monitoring, remedial and validation works
Scheduling and interpretation of field and laboratory data
Production of interpretive environmental reports including conceptual site models (CSM) and preliminary (PRA) and generic quantitative risk assessments (GQRA)
Undertaking and supporting the design, implementation and verification of environmental remediation works
Demonstrating a commitment to ensuring consistently high levels of safety, technical robustness, commercial awareness, organisation and customer satisfaction
The post holder will also be required to undertake quality assurance and safety performance audits on works carried out by others and to provide constructive feedback on the outcome of these inspections.
A key part of the role will require the post holder to take part in Business Development activities in technical adviser and key client management/development capacities.
Perform other duties as required by the consultancy division and other areas of the business in order to meet business needs.
Qualifications
Knowledge & experience A degree in a relevant earth sciences, or geo-environmental discipline and, ideally, be a member of a relevant professional organisation
An MSc in a relevant subject (beneficial but not essential)
7+ years' work experience in managing environmental incidents, carrying out contaminated land surveys and site investigations, with knowledge of available drilling techniques
Possess knowledge of remediation technologies for contaminated soil and groundwater
Have knowledge and experience of assessment of geotechnical risks and foundation design for new developments.
Have an understanding of how hazardous liquid storage facilities operate, including primary, secondary and tertiary containment measures; and understand how to assess operational environmental risks.
A working knowledge of Land Contamination Risk Management (LCRM) and BS10175, investigation of potentially contaminated land
Be proficient in logging soil and rock in accordance with BS5930 and have strong skills in the development and updating of CSMs
Possess the ability to work together in a team and also demonstrate the drive and self-motivation to work independently, with minimal supervision
Possess the ability to take ownership of and manage projects to meet deadlines and project budgets
Possess experience / sound knowledge of current and emerging environmental legislation, guidance and best practice applicable to contaminated land consultancy
Possess practical experience of the chemical analyses which can be performed on soil, water and air samples
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate via clear and prompt written and verbal communications to colleagues, clients, contractors, regulators and other consultants
Be competent and diligent in the production of technical reports to a high standard, that are commercially focused and to meet challenging deadlines
Demonstrate a good degree of flexibility and possess strong organisational and time management skills
