AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in Utility Computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in cloud operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. About ESC and AWS UC
European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which provides foundational services such as Amazon S3 and EC2, along with innovative new products. As a member of the UC organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Managed Operations engineers within AWS UC engage with customers requiring specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Key job responsibilities
* Oversee the launch of ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.
* Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
* Enhance day-to-day operations to improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of ESC.
* Deliver scalable services and ensure high-availability for EU customers.
A day in the life
You will operate and improve large software systems, review operational health, troubleshoot anomalies, follow change management procedures, resolve operational issues, and develop scripts to improve root cause analysis. Participation in an "on-call" rotation is required to handle incidents outside of regular hours.

* Fluency in written and spoken English.
* Legal right to work in Germany.
* Relocation support provided within the EU.

Minimum qualifications
* Experience supporting cloud systems or similar services.
* Proficient troubleshooting skills and operational best practices.
* Knowledge of scripting (Bash, Python, Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript).
* Experience working cross-organizationally and leading strategic efforts.
* Performance tuning and fleet utilization optimization skills.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., CloudFormation, CDK, Ansible).
