About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, detail‑focused and motivated Associate Transactional Procurement Coordinator (IT Buyer) to join our team at Birmingham City Council. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high‑quality public services through effective, efficient, and robust transactional IT buying services and administration. The role plays a key part in enabling and improving business value, quality and cost effectiveness across a range of public services within compliant public sector procurement regulations and delivering value for money for our residents. Supporting and managing the purchasing of IT hardware, software and associated peripherals, ensuring all expenditure is in line with internal governance and is well documented, working closely with cross‑functional stakeholders within our internal teams and our external suppliers, helps to support the council’s strategic objectives and statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the transactional IT Buying team and Head of DTS Business Operations in the administration and coordination of technology related orders on behalf of multiple service areas.
* Maintain, manage and monitor the DTS portal forms and technology catalogue, ensuring they are relevant and up to date.
* Managing all orders from request to closure through the DTS internal call monitoring tool, ensuring robust cost control and that all purchases are documented accurate and up to date.
* Responsible for raising requisitions with the Oracle HR and Finance system, goods receipting purchase orders and the management of related supplier invoices.
* Be a subject matter expert in related DTS internal processes, to be able to advise, ensure adherence, and manage the smooth delivery of all orders through distribution to P.OD.
* Liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to build solid relationships, resolve queries and support service delivery.
* Contribute to reporting and audit requirements, ensuring transparency, accountability and assurance.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience in the purchasing of technology related products or procurement within a public sector or regulated environment.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Familiarity with public procurement legislation (e.g., PCR 2015/PA2023) is desirable.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Proficiency in technology products and tools such as Microsoft, P2P systems, e‑procurement systems, Oracle and with a good level of IT knowledge.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
