Weightmans’ IT team plays a pivotal role in the firm’s innovation strategy, enabling digital transformation across departments.
The Solutions Architect will be responsible for translating business requirements into appropriate IT solutions in line with business and IT strategy, and designing end‑to‑end solutions, including integrations.
This role involves overseeing the architecture and design of technology solutions, leading initiatives through design and planning phases and ensuring approved designs are delivered as expected (architecture governance). In addition, they will establish and own the architecture/design board and the associated processes and documentation, and contribute to designing our target architecture.
The role will report into the Head of Strategic Planning & Governance and will have overall accountability of solution architecture, and architectural governance, embedding best practice and frameworks to enable successful technology solutions into Weightmans.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Solution Design
* Translate business requirements into appropriate IT solutions in line with business and IT strategy.
* Design end‑to‑end solutions and integrations.
* Lead and Chair the Architecture/Design Board to ensure designs and solutions are governed and documented.
* Work with colleagues to understand pain points in the business related to technology and identify solutions.
* Work closely with the Head of Hybrid Platforms on cloud architecture design and migration strategies, ensuring scalability, security, and cost optimisation.
* Embed security and compliance requirements into solution design from inception, ensuring proactive risk management.
* Deliver solutions that reduce operational costs, improve system resilience, and enhance user experience.
* Define and deliver a standardised software request and implementation process resulting in a consolidated and approved software list.
* Own and maintain full topologies for the estate.
* Identify standardisation and consolidation opportunities across the estate.
* Establish and enforce architectural standards, patterns, and best practices across projects and platforms.
* Maintain structured processes, technical documentation, and knowledge bases to support architectural excellence and compliance.
* Collaborate with legal professionals, IT peers, Finance, Risk & Compliance, HR teams, and external vendors to deliver solutions meeting business and compliance requirements.
* Evaluate emerging technologies and vendors to recommend solutions that drive competitive advantage.
* Champion the organisation’s drive for operational excellence, employing quality management methodologies (such as Lean, Six Sigma, ITIL) to streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance service value.
* Foster a collaborative, outcome‑driven culture with a focus on technical excellence, service delivery, and colleague experience.
Project Delivery
* Support project execution using Weightmans’ project management framework, ensuring solutions are delivered to architectural scope.
* Ensure systems and processes meet legal, regulatory, and data protection standards including GDPR, ISO 27001, and Cyber Essentials+.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in solution architecture, enterprise integration, and stakeholder engagement within complex environments.
* Certification such as TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect, or similar are desirable.
* Commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
* Solutions‑oriented visionary and strategic thinker.
* Collaborative leader with a passion for technology and mentoring.
* Knowledge of security, risk management, compliance, and data protection.
