Role Profile

Optical Advisor - Maternity Cover (Fixed Term, 12 Months, Part-Time)

We are now seeking a dedicated Optical Advisor to join our team at John High Opticians, 8 Market Street, Faversham ME13 7AA, on a fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.

Job Overview:

The Optical Advisor is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. This includes assisting patients with frame and lens selection, preparing orders for the optical laboratory, performing adjustments and fittings, and supporting the branch team in achieving business objectives.

This position is offered on a fixed-term contract of up to 12 months to cover maternity leave. The contract may be ended early, and there is potential for the role to become permanent depending on business growth.

Hours are part-time, 30 hours per week, with occasional overtime available. Candidates must be available to work within practice opening hours, Monday to Saturday, 9am-5.30pm.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care and Dispensing

· Design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames according to written optical prescriptions.

· Assist patients in selecting frames, considering both style and prescription requirements.

· Measure clients for glasses and ensure frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements.

· Verify accuracy of completed spectacles and adjust frames for proper fit.

· Provide guidance on the correct use and care of glasses and contact lenses.

Practice Operations

· Prepare and submit work orders for the optical laboratory.

· Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, work orders, payments, and patient interactions.

· Assist with administrative duties such as inventory management, insurance submissions, and basic bookkeeping.

· Support the Branch Manager in ensuring smooth daily operations and achievement of practice goals.

Sales and Customer Engagement

· Recommend lenses, coatings, and frame options tailored to patients' needs.

· Promote and sell products including spectacles, sunglasses, and contact lenses.

· Deliver consistently high levels of customer service while maximising sales opportunities.

· Support team members in meeting shared targets and objectives.

Key Result Areas/Deliverables:

· Delivery of outstanding customer service and patient satisfaction.

· Accurate preparation of optical prescriptions and spectacles.

· Achievement of sales and service targets.

· Strong contribution to the smooth and efficient running of the practice.

· Compliance with company policies, including GDPR and health & safety standards.

Experience Required:

· Previous experience in a retail optical environment is essential.

· Strong communication skills and a confident, patient-facing manner.

· Ability to multi-task, prioritise, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

· Team player with a proactive and professional approach.

· Sales awareness and the ability to maximise commercial opportunities.

Additional Information:

· Fixed-term contract: up to 12 months maternity cover, with the option to end earlier.

· Potential to become a permanent role depending on business growth.

· Part-time, 30 hours per week, with overtime sometimes available.

· Working hours within Monday to Saturday, 9am-5.30pm (specific schedule to be agreed with the Branch Manager).
