The Role
As our new Transport Manager at our Newton Aycliffe site you'll be responsible for leading all day-to-day transport and distribution operations, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery performance. Reporting to the Dedicated Fleet General Manager, the role has full accountability for operational planning, fleet compliance, driver and office team management, and customer service excellence.
As the senior on-site leader, the Transport Manager will take ownership of site performance, safety standards, and operational results, balancing commercial awareness with operational excellence and effective people leadership. The role plays a pivotal part in maintaining strong customer relationships, driving continuous improvement, and developing a high-performing team within a fast-paced, dedicated transport environment.

Key Responsibilities for Transport Manager
Lead and manage all day-to-day transport and distribution operations at the Newton Aycliffe site, ensuring customer service levels and operational KPIs are consistently achieved.
Take full accountability for site financial performance, including budget management, cost control, and monthly P&L delivery.
Act as the CPC-qualified Transport Manager and O Licence holder, ensuring full compliance with DVSA, Operator Licence, and Health & Safety regulations.
Oversee fleet and driver compliance, ensuring vehicles are maintained, serviced, and roadworthy, with effective maintenance and resource planning in place.
Provide strong on-site leadership to driver and office teams, setting objectives, managing performance, and supporting development.
Build and maintain effective customer relationships, acting as the main point of contact and leading regular customer review meetings.
Ensure effective use of transport and HR systems (e.g. 1TMS, Convey, Cezanne), maintaining audit readiness and operational control.
About You We're looking for someone who brings:
CPC-qualified Transport Manager with proven experience as an O Licence holder within a transport or distribution environment.
Strong operational leadership experience, managing both driver and office-based teams in a fast-paced setting.
Solid commercial awareness with a track record of managing site budgets, costs, and P&L performance.
In-depth knowledge of DVSA regulations, driver compliance, vehicle maintenance, and Health & Safety standards.
Confident systems user
Customer-focused professional with the ability to build strong relationships and deliver service excellence.
A decisive, resilient leader with excellent communication skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
Desirable
Experience leading change initiatives and building high-performing teams.
Knowledge of freight forwarding and contract logistics operations.
Understanding of Continuous Improvement and Lean methodologies.
