About the role
Join Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) as the Pensions Technical Manager and become a key part of our first-line client team.
You'll provide expert technical guidance and support for the HL pension products, including market-leading SIPP, Drawdown and annuity propositions, helping clients save and invest for a brighter future.

What you’ll be doing
As Pensions Technical Manager, you’ll be working closely with Product and Proposition Managers and the Head of Pensions & Retirement.
This is a varied role, which will require you to draw on deep technical knowledge. There are operational elements to the role, including chairing committees, overseeing processes and responsibility for key documentation. You’ll also have opportunity to represent HL and our clients in industry groups.
1. Providing technical input and leading workstreams on key HL initiatives.
2. Shaping the technical elements of future regulatory change, by collaborating with HL policy colleagues and representing HL in industry forums and working groups. You will be key in ensuring the needs of HL clients are considered.
3. Owning and managing the process to implement regulatory changes end-to-end across HL’s pension products.
4. Setting pension projection assumptions and coordinating with HL teams and third parties to ensure timely updates.
5. Chairing the HL Death Claims Committee, reviewing individual cases and ensuring distribution of deceased pension assets in the best interests of clients.
6. Overseeing HL policies and procedures specific to pensions, including SIPP early access, genuine errors, unauthorised payments and defined benefit transfer activity.
7. Maintaining the accuracy of key documentation including the Operator Manual, Scheme Rules, Trust Deed, Custody Agreement and Key Features. Building out and maintaining internal technical information for collaboration and information sharing.
8. Supporting HL’s other wrapper-based products, for example ISAs.
About you
9. Bringing deep technical expertise in pensions, with a thorough understanding of complex pension structures and rules
10. Recognised as an expert in trust-based pension schemes, including SIPPs and Drawdown
11. Highly organised and confident, you excel at chairing committees and leading collaborative teams
12. Demonstrated ability to create, manage and oversee robust policies and procedures, driving compliance and best practice
13. Skilled at engaging senior stakeholders and communicating complex information with clarity
14. Pension qualifications that underpin your credibility and commitment to excellence within the industry
Interview process
The interview process for this role will be a two stage interview consisting of competency and technical questions as well as a presentation.
Working Schedule
The Pensions Technical Manager role is a Permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Our office is based in Bristol, BS1 5HL. Hybrid working is available where only 2-3 days a week is required in the office.
