5‑Axis Machine Operator – York, PA (Johnson Controls)
We are seeking a 5‑Axis Machine Operator to join our federal team at our York, PA location. The role involves operating CNC controlled 5‑axis machining for live spindle machining, boring, drilling, tapping, milling, and turning operations. Operators are responsible for machine utilization, tool management, and maintenance support.
Location: Grantley Plant, York, PA
Shift: 1st or 2nd Shift, Monday‑Friday
Pay: $30.96 per hour (additional $0.70/hour for 2nd Shift)*
Bonus: 5% eligible
Union: Bargaining unit
Responsibilities:
* Operate CNC 5‑axis machining and manage tooling, tool changer, DNC, and adaptive control systems.
* Set up, load, and deburr large production parts and heavy fixtures to pallet stations.
* Maintain clean, safe working environment through housekeeping, coolant removal, and chip cleanup.
* Prepare, maintain and store tooling and components using the tool management system.
* Monitor control messages, correct errors, and adjust tool offsets and compensation.
* Inspect parts, document key characteristics, and assist with SPC documentation.
* Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, depth and height gauges, bore gauges, and ring gauges.
* Deburr internal to machining operations.
* Use hand and power tools for preventive maintenance checklists and machine downtime logs.
* Assist maintenance technicians with machine preventive maintenance as required.
* Follow all safety rules and practices.
Qualifications:
* At least one year of experience operating CNC equipment.
* Ability to read complex shop drawings, process sheets, and CNC programs.
* Experience with precision measurement tools and tool offset compensation.
* Knowledge of CNC controlled machines, machine shop practices, and material properties.
* Familiarity with PC systems and usage.
* Ability to set up and operate CNC horizontal machining centers for large parts production.
* Strong judgment, initiative, and ability to work at maximum productivity within quality and tolerance limits.
* Physical strength and stamina for heavy lifting, frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
* Availability to operate the 3‑pallet, 7‑axis machine and execute functional setup and operation responsibilities.
Education: Equivalent formal apprenticeship training or comparable means.
