About Us
Our SP Energy Networks business is responsible for distributing electricity to 3.5 million homes and businesses across Central & Southern Scotland, Cheshire, Merseyside, North Shropshire, and North Wales. We operate continuously to ensure reliable power supply.
Role Overview
This team ensures the safe provision of operations & maintenance activities on the electricity distribution network, adhering to all regulatory and license obligations.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Support the integrity of the distribution and protection system.
2. Develop skills related to work on substations, cables, and overhead lines.
3. Deliver planned maintenance, connections, investment, and fault repair works.
4. Respond to and restore supplies affected by network faults.
5. Minimize CML and ATR by applying skills for timely restoration.
6. Provide technical support to resolve faults on the network.
7. Accurately document repair and follow-up work.
8. Assist with protection commissioning, fault switching, and maintenance.
9. Undertake plant and protection maintenance independently.
10. Supervise contractors.
11. Carry out programmed and fault switching activities safely.
12. Assist in installation, commissioning, and fault rectification of battery systems.
13. Ensure safety during all site works and act as safety officer when required.
14. Produce Power On schedules as needed.
15. Ensure compliance with Data Capture processes.
16. Perform standby duties to restore customer supplies and address network issues.
What You’ll Bring
1. Develop and manage trainees including apprentices and skills seekers.
2. Conduct risk assessments for your team and contractors.
3. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
4. Address issues from safety and quality audits.
5. Deliver excellent customer service and promote service standards.
6. Take responsibility for tasks, support team goals, and provide coaching.
7. Knowledge of protection systems and control & restoration processes.
8. Authorisation to switch on the electrical network.
9. If trained, undertake live working per Scottish Power standards.
10. Understand Scottish Power health and safety procedures.
11. Knowledge of electrical networks, protection, battery systems, and ancillary equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
1. SVQ/NVQ qualification or equivalent experience.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
3. Relevant trade experience (Fitting, Linesman, or Jointing).
4. Valid driving license.
